Indoor Pool Closure

The indoor pool at the Wytheville Community Center will close the week of February 19th to allow install of a new dehumidification system. We anticipate the closure lasting no longer than 1 week, however please monitor our website and the Town of Wytheville Parks and Recreation Facebook page for updates or schedule changes.

Holiday Refuse Collection

Due to the Presidents’ Day holiday, the refuse collection in the Town of Wytheville for Monday, February 19, 2024, will be made on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. The normal collection scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, 2024, will be made on that day.

The Town of Wytheville’s Recycling Center located at 1025 South Third Street will not have an attendant on duty Monday, February 19, 2024, due to the Presidents’ Day holiday. The attendant will return to assist citizens on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Please note that when an attendant is not on duty, the Recycling Center's gates are closed, and items cannot be dropped off.

TAZEWELL STREET DETOUR TO BE EXPANDED

Progress along the nest phase of Heritage Walk continues despite cold weather and snow over the past few weeks. Concrete work within the current street closure area was completed on Thursday, February 1. It is now necessary to extend the detour to include the intersection of Tazewell Street and East Ridge Road for construction of pedestrian ramps.

Citizens should please be advised that the existing detour along Tazewell Street in the vicinity of the Visitor Center will be extended for one additional block beginning Monday, February 5, until further notice. We expect that the closure will last for one full week, but the time will be dependent on the weather. We ask that motorists please try to use alternate routes during this time.

The revised detour route will be marked using portions of Valley, 3rd and East Reservoir Streets. Traffic missing the initial route detour sign will have the availability to utilize the Visitor Center parking lot to turn around and proceed back to the provided detour route. The Visitor Center will stay open to the public during the remainder of the construction project. Residents in the street closure area can continue to access their homes from the north end of Tazewell Street. From the south, Tazewell Street will remain open to the intersection of West Ridge Road, but right turns onto East Ridge Road will be blocked.

The Town apologizes for any inconvenience during the construction. The contractor is Jones Road and Bridge who will be working in this area until the project is complete. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Town’s Director of Public Utilities Billy Anderson at 276-223-3434. Thank you!
